Why is the crystal so important? Diving watches have relatively thick watch crystals. Sometimes domed crystals are used to enhance the pressure-resistance of the watch and to improve the watch face legibility under water. The typical materials used for crystals are acrylic glass, hardened glass and synthetic sapphire which all have their pros and cons.

Aside from not keeping proper time there is nothing more annoying than a dinged up watch surface.  Whether it is a jagged scratch, a fresh divot distorting the date or even stubborn wall paint that won't come off with your finger nail.  A flawed watch crystal is much like a noticeable dent on the quarter panel of an exotic super car, gorgeous ride but you know....the dent. Same scenario a scarred crystal takes away from the overall wow factor of your premium timepiece.  This is why it is important to consider which raw material to invest in, mineral glass or sapphire.

There was a time when the United States Army issued the same watch to each soldier.  These days are over.  All United States soldiers are not issued the same watch.  In fact, it may be surprising to learn that in most situations, members of the military in the US have the option to wear a wide variety of watches in the field and in tactical situations.  Usually this decisions is made individually by the Unit.  The one thing that all real military watches have in common, however is that they are all built to military specifications of various standards.
